Dear families
This is always a mixed-emotion term. The weather is getting warmer, summer approaches, the holidays do too, and in between we celebrate a range of wonderful things for our students, and our students themselves. Our year 6 students 'graduate' primary school, we look forward to whole-school fun days like Market Day and Navy Day and we plan for dazzling graduation events for our departing students.
With only a few weeks left to share with some of our students and families, it is understandable that wonderful memories and experiences are mixed with some sadness at the thought of saying 'goodbye'. We are always keen to hear how we can keep connected with our students and family members, as we do believe that our Malibu family extends beyond those currently enrolled.
It is also the eve of our last whole-school assembly. We hope to see many of our families tomorrow, as we celebrate our Positive Behaviour Award winners, watch the clever class performances, present a Board Award, Akuch will tell a joke and we will celebrate a very special member of the Malibu Alumini. In addition, our Year 11 students will be receiving their 'Graduate' T-shirts, very proudly presented by our P&C.
We were delighted to recently nominate 9 of our wonderful staff for the Annual WA Education Support Principals and Administrator's (WAESPAA) Awards, and even more delighted that some were recognised as finalists We are so proud to celebrate each of them as valued members of our Malibu team.
- Debbie Smith - Winner of the Secondary Teacher of the Year Award
- Rebecca Morgan - Primary Teacher of the Year finalist
- Sharon Hill - Allied Professional of the Year finalist
- Tiffany Brunsick - Nominated for Leader of the Year
- Suzie Robertson - Nominated for Primary Teacher of the Year
- Katrina Stubenrauch - Nominated for Secondary Teacher of the Year
- Jessica Shelley - Nominated for Allied Professional of the Year
- Denise Lee - Nominated for Support Staff of the Year
- Lisa Law - Nominated for Support Staff of the Year
Congratulations to each of you and thank you for your ongoing service to our students, school and community.
We are excited for our annual Market Day at Malibu next Friday and hope you are able to make it. We are thrilled to be joined by 8 other schools and our South Metropolitan Education Region Director of Education, Sue Cuneo, the Mayor of Rockingham Deb Hamblin. Mrs Magenta Marshall MLA, Member for Rockingham. Please join us from 10.30am, ready for the big start at 10.45am.
Following that, our Annual Navy Day will be bigger than ever - with plans well underway for Friday 29th November, there will be rides, games, BBQ provided and a visit from the big guy in red. We hope all of our families can make it.
This Monday we will be hosting a service for Remembrance Day and invite everyone to attend, from 10.30am.
We look forward to seeing you very soon.
Kind regards

News from the Board
Hi families
We were delighted to acknowledge principal Merrilee Wright for our School Board award at the end of term 3 assembly. Merrilee has continued to strive for the best learning environment for our children, making sure our programs are relevant and the staff have what they need to make the most difference for our students.
For dedication and exceptional leadership steering our Malibu bus during these complex and challenging times. As our bus driver, Merrilee has demonstrated extraordinary resilience and creative problem solving to ensure we are on route to our planned destination. Of course, with any journey, there are unplanned stops, passengers departing and arriving, and the need for maintenance, but Merrilee, being agile and responsive to her passengers, debriefs and settles us all back on the bus again. The GPS may need to be reset, and an alternate route taken, but Merrilee projects the confidence and the nous we need in our leader. Merrilee, thank you for your relentless commitment to making a difference for our students and engaging staff, parents, carers, and Malibu stakeholders to work in partnership to provide each student with an education where there is a ‘Future Without Limits’.
We look forward to celebrating our next School Board Award winner during our week 5 assembly.

Junior 2
Term 4 in Pre-Primary is all about Australian Animals. We are reading stories, singing songs about Kangaroos, Wombats, Bilbies, Echidnas, Dingoes, Koalas, Lizards and much more. We are adding to our zoo animal display by creating some fun and colourful Australian Animal craft pieces and are even learning the Noongar names for the animals.
We are busy finishing off our Enterprise products ready for the Malibu Market Day this term and we have created some beautiful tile coasters and alphabet salt dough keyrings to sell on the day. We are super proud of what we have made. As part of Enterprise, we have also been learning about different shops and services in our community. As an introduction to this, our Pre-Primary students have been visiting the school café. Each week the students take their money to the school café and make a purchase. They are now so confident and comfortable with the routine that we are sitting in the café to eat our treats.
The students have all developed some lovely friendships over the year and can be seen playing alongside one another, sharing toys and activities, laughing, and having fun together. They have endless amounts of energy that keep the teaching staff on their toes however it has been so rewarding to see their confidence and individual personalities further develop as the year has progressed.

Middle 5
It has been a great semester in M5, with many exciting events happening! We began with the commencement of our fortnightly excursions for community access, beginning with visiting the Dome in Waikiki. We have explored a variety of transport options, from walking to taking the school bus. The students then enjoyed eating their lunch on the sunny enclosed veranda. We are continuing our community access this term with students exploring our local Bunnings where they will identify where items are located and experience using a self-service checkout.
We have also been very focused on our enterprise item for Market Day. The students have worked very hard this term to create unique and individual pieces of artwork that they will help transfer onto hessian bags that they will sell on their very own market stall. These pieces of artwork are as special as each of our students, and we are delighted that they will be showcasing their work in this way.
We have also been enjoying some marvellous weather when out and about at a variety of sporting events, from the faction carnival on the last day of term 3 to the cricket carnival at the Larkhill Sporting Complex. All our students have had a great time engaging with staff, parents, and each other at these events, and have even managed to secure some 1st and 2nd place ribbons!
M5 Team – Mary, Jade, Gemma, Bettina, Careen, and Denise
Senior 3
The year is flying by, and Senior Three students have been making the most of it with enriching excursions aimed at enhancing their understanding of the community. These excursions have focused on youth culture, transportation, and provided students with the opportunity to explore local areas around Rockingham, Mandurah, and Fremantle in Term Two and Three. For instance, they visited the Shipwreck Museum, Mandurah Community Centre and Museum to delve into historical artifacts, as well as various parks like the Kwinana Adventure Playground. These activities are thoughtfully integrated with the curriculum, social skills development, and the ASDAN program. Moreover, students had an engaging morning at Fishabilities and can look forward to more stimulating activities later this term. The entire class has been diligently preparing for our Enterprise project, "potted plants by Senior Trees," for the ESSN Market Day in November. It has been a fantastic year so far, and there are many more thrilling activities on the horizon.

Physical Education
What a semester we have had! We commenced Term 3 with lots of fun and games in our sports hall, all the students in Junior, middle and Senior blocks have worked tirelessly and with enthusiasm to participate and practise their athletics games in preparation for the end of term faction carnival. In addition to working toward the athletics carnival, our wonderful seniors have been continuing their various ASDAN programs, Sports Studies and Yogacise and Sports and Leisure. We are so proud of all they have achieved this year and we are encouraged by their growth and development in participating and engagement in their weekly sessions and know that they will be able to grow onward and upward, next year.
In middle block, our students have spent more time working on developing their fundamental movements according to their skills and interests. We have worked on ball skills, sensory play and yoga balance and exercise. It has been so great seeing their excitement and motivations in trying new things.
Lastly our juniors have been exploring and growing their interest in obstacles including inclines and declines, balance, stability and exploratory play. We enjoy indoor and outdoor experiences and love to have the variety in of experiences in Physical Education sessions. Juniors you have been so much see how far you have come in almost a year!
