Principal's Pen
Dear families
We've ended week 3 with an incredible amount of celebration and activity! With a week of wonderful assemblies, Friday saw us celebrating our brilliant teachers for World Teacher Day. Thank you to those who took some time to send messages of acknowledgement. These were posted in our front office and very much appreciated by our team.
We promoted awareness of Child Safety by recognising 'A Day for Daniel'. Protective Behaviours is a key part of our ongoing education and so very important at any age. Although protected with the greatest care, our collective thoughts are with little Cleo Smith's family, in our recognition of how vulnerable any child can be.
We also joined a range of service providers and schools at Mandurah Forum today to promote our learning programs. Visitors to our stall were most impressed with our huge display of Enterprise Education products. I hope you will be available on Wednesday 17th November to see the efforts of your child's employability skills as we host our Education Support South Network (ESSN) Market Day. Our P -year 13 Enterprise Education is part of our 'A Future Without Limits' strategy to build important skills as they transition towards life beyond school. Please see the flyer below for more information.
This term will go quickly and we encourage you to start thinking about any renewals of school based Therapy Plans, with your relevant therapy providers, so that your child's plan is current and ready for next year.
Thank you to those families who have dropped in to say hello. With so many students arriving by bus, I appreciate it might be difficult to do. I am still working towards knowing each of you a little better, so if you are in the school, please do drop in and introduce yourself. I am proud of our Malibu School community and we all work better together.
Have a lovely weekend and I look forward to seeing you soon.
Kind regards
Merrilee Wright
Pfizer Vaccinations offered at Malibu School

Meet our team - Adam Gray
Adam joined Malibu School in 2019 as an EA. His favourite things about being at Malibu is the opportunity to implement changes in our students lives, promoting their amazing capabilities and showing off their wonderful talents.
His Uncle Stewart is his biggest inspiration, who taught Adam to always look on the brighter side of things. He draws on the strength of his Uncle to share with our students that nothing is impossible and there’s always light to look for, even when it seems far off.
He might be known for being funny – which is a good thing - as he aspires to write and perform stand up comedy at next year’s Fringe Festival! Adam strives to bringing a positive and an enlightened mindset to all activities and aiding others wherever he sees help is needed.
Malibu Senior Camp
18 excited Senior students and 13 dedicated staff had a great time on the Annual Malibu Senior Camp last week. After a short bus ride to the Swan Valley Adventure Centre students were soon settled into Wattle House, we set up our bedrooms and then headed out to explore the art of Archery, with many impressive eagle eye shots. Next was the Possum Glider – the first of many adrenalin filled activities, where a team of muscly staff pulled on a rope that whisked students high into the air – there was much puffing and squealing as students realised they could almost touch the sky. We finished day one with a trek through the Commando Course with mud flying everywhere and shouts of achievement.
Day two saw us again pumping the adrenalin as we traversed the High Ropes Course and Zip lined down to the grass. Students and staff loved this activity and kept running back up the hill for extra turns flying down the hill.
Our last day began with a heart starting climb up a massive staircase to the Flying Fox – a 100-metre-long ride that saw students meet challenges head on and succeed in the most inspiring ways.
The weather held out and kept things ‘just right’, fantastic food, dancing, laughing, Frisbee Golf and some lazing about on the grass in beautiful surrounds…. Everyone was exhausted and filled with pride at their achievements. Roll on 2022 so we can do it all again!!

TA 5/6 -Busy times!
Welcome back for Term 4. We are continuing on with another few weeks of our theme of “Pets” and to link in with the letters of the alphabet, have discussed some animals which really would make for some very strange pets – Turtles, Unicorns, Wombats and Foxes. We have pretended that we are Vets and have read a funny story where a boy had a pet dinosaur that needed to see the vet. Merrilee brought in her pet Guinea Pig “Bean” and he spent some time in our classroom. We all loved giving him cuddles and watching him run around. In the next few weeks we are planning to have a chick hatching activity in our classroom and we will be lucky enough to observe how the chicks hatch out of the egg and grow into fluffy little chickens. It will then be time to finish our “Pets” theme and move on to our favourite time of the year “Christmas”.
We have been busy working on our Enterprise projects each week, in preparation to sell them to the many Malibu families. We have made some musical shaker bottles which we have practiced using during singing and dancing and we are now making some Magic Reindeer Food. This food will make sure Santa’s busy Reindeers don’t go hungry on Christmas Eve. We wouldn’t want them to run out of energy and not be able to deliver our presents!
Every Friday we welcome along our friends from Little Stars Playgroup, and what a fantastic group we currently have. So many new faces joining us making for a super busy, super energetic morning of singing, dancing, bubbles, painting, outside play, crunch and sip and so much more.
As always, Early Childhood involves lots of play, laughter, mess and fun. It’s hard to believe to another year is nearly done.

TA11 - Cricket, Money & Shopping!
In TA11 we have been learning about money. The students have been learning to identify coins and count $1 coins up to five, in preparation to go shopping at Kmart. We looked at what was being advertised and learned to budget to buy item/s under $5. The students enjoyed participating in shopping activities and going for an excursion to Kmart to buy their chosen item.
Students of TA11 also had the wonderful opportunity to attend a cricket clinic at our local Lark Hill Sports Complex, with other education support schools, where we learned ball handling skills, agility and of course playing cricket. It was a wonderful day out in the sunshine and it was a relaxing bus ride back to school as we had used all of our energy running around bowling, batting and fielding.

TA 16 - From Cooking to Drums!
Term 4 has started well in TA 16 with the students settling back into their routine well. As a class we love our Tuesday mornings where we spend time participating in the Stephanie Alexander Cooking Program. The students enjoy gardening and cooking with Jane. In the garden we have helped Jane with weeding and cleaning jobs along with planting some new vegetables. This week we made Weet Bix slice and enjoying measuring out the ingredients. Our favourite part of any cooking lesson is tasting what we have cooked.
This term we have also starting taking part in the drumbeat program on a Wednesday.
Nicky, Sue, Jade, Taryn, Ruth
TA 15 - Catch of the Day!
It has been a terrific start to Term 4 for our TA15 students. During our Community Access, TA15 have been involved in the Fishability program every Thursday morning, down at the pristine waters of the Mandurah Foreshore. The Fishability program demonstrates our students a range of skills on how to fish using exclusively designed rods and reels. Students have caught plenty of fish including King George whiting, Herring, Garfish, Tailor and even the odd Blowfish! Fishability will continue being part of TA15’s Community Access program for the remainder of Term 4.

Health & Protective Behaviours
This semester, our students have been exploring relationships using The Circles concepts. These concepts explore the different types of relationships we have in our lives, from people very close to us to strangers. We are exploring the people who fit within these relationships and our body rules in each relationship. And the most important lesson is around body autonomy: my body is my body, it is special and it belongs to me.

Positive Behavior Support (PBS) Update
PBS Term 4
This term the area we are focusing on is the playground.
Our first fortnightly focus is keeping safe in the playground; these expectations are:
- Use equipment properly
- Stay in your area
- Safe hands
- Safe feet
- Follow playground rules
Each week students participate in an explicit PBS lesson to ensure they are aware of the expectations, know what they look like, and how they can display them.
The focus for week 4 and 5 is showing respect in the playground.
Kind Regards
Kate Sharp, PBS Team Leader

Building Works Progress
We are grateful for the patience and understanding shown by our families during the construction of our new build, walkway and bus shelter with the latter taking up valued disabled parking spaces. The carpark areas are hoped to be open again very soon, hopefully next week, and we are looking forward to having shelter from the rain. We are keen to make things as easy as possible for families, so please speak with your child’s teacher to discuss alternative arrangements where possible while the finishing touches are being made
