An update from Seth

It has been a fantastic first term for me here at Malibu School. Your children never fail to bring a smile to the faces of the staff. Even on the days when I arrive feeling a little stressed after navigating the Kwinana Freeway, those feelings quickly lift once our students and staff arrive and we settle into the school day.
It may sound like a cliché, but no two days are ever the same. Your children keep us on our toes in the best possible way. Malibu staff are consistently patient, caring and committed – qualities that I know are deeply appreciated by our community. We understand how important it is for our families to feel that their child or young adult is safe, supported and understood. Creating and maintaining a trustworthy and inclusive school environment is something to which we are all dedicated.
Your child's class teacher(s) have now finalised end-of-semester reporting, and reports will be sent home this week. As part of a broader education system, we are required to report using specific formats and digital tools. These frameworks do not always allow us to fully capture the genuine growth and progress we witness every day from our students at Malibu School.
As a team, we always presume student competence and aim to set meaningful, achievable goals for every learner. In reviewing this semester's reports, I was especially struck by the care and insight reflected in the General Comments section. This is where our teachers are most able to thoughtfully and accurately acknowledge your child's unique strengths, successes and achievements.
I hope you enjoy reading these reflections as much as we enjoyed writing them.
Wishing students, parents, carers and staff a wonderful holiday - Seth

Compass is coming to Malibu School
The Department of Education is introducing a new standardised software platform/app in every WA government school - it is called Compass. This platform can streamline communication and provide easier coordination between home and school.
If you have children in other schools, you may already be familiar with Compass and its offerings.
The introduction at Malibu will be gradual and considered, starting with staff training to use the system in a limited capacity for internal school functions when we 'go live' in August.
Initially, there will be no changes to how we communicate with parents and carers. Please continue using the existing apps and routines you are currently using.
However, Compass does offer features that could improve communication in other areas of the school. If we decide to introduce some of these features, we will keep you informed and updated.
We share this information to prepare you for potential upcoming changes. Please continue using all current communication channels as usual.

Parent and Carer Survey Term 3
We appreciate feedback, it helps us know what we can try to do better and will help us plan some improvement goals as part of our upcoming school review in Term 4, 2025
Your response will take only a few minutes, and I assure you it is anonymous.

P&C News

Exciting News and a Call for Volunteers!
As we wrap up another fantastic term, the P&C would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to all the parents, carers, and students who have supported our activities so far this year.
We are thrilled to share the wonderful news that the school has received a generous grant of $40,000 from Magenta Marshall! This significant contribution will make a real difference to our school community, helping us fund vital projects and enhance the learning environment for all our children.
This term, our Mother’s Day Stall proved to be a wonderful success, with excited children selecting special gifts for the important women in their lives. Thank you to everyone who helped, whether by donating goods, volunteering time, or simply supporting the event.
Looking ahead to Term 3, we have a busy calendar of events planned. To ensure these events run smoothly and successfully, we rely on the involvement of our amazing parent community. We are seeking volunteers who can spare even a short amount of time—every little bit helps! Whether you’re able to help set up, assist during events, or tidy up afterwards, your support will be greatly appreciated. Please reach out in the Facebook group or email malibupandc@gmail.com to help.
Thank you for your ongoing support, and we wish you a safe and calm holiday break.

Changes to Therapy provider requirements
Changes to Therapy provider requirements have been made by the Insurance Commission of WA, and we want to let you know how this might affect your child’s therapy at school.
Effective immediately, all therapists must have "public liability insurance cover of not less than $20 million for any one occurrence, with unlimited coverage in the aggregate." The Insurance Commission of WA has confirmed that multiple insurance providers can offer policies meeting these requirements. This change affects all schools.
To ensure your child continues to access the support of your preferred therapist at school, we are reviewing all therapy access requests submitted for the 2025 school year, to ensure they comply with the new standards. If your child's therapist’s application does not meet the updated requirements, we will send you and your therapist, an email notification. Access to therapy on the school site will be paused until your therapist provides an updated copy of their public liability insurance policy to the school.
Thank you for your understanding and support during this transition time.
Little Stars Playgroup Plus
Little Stars Playgroup Plus
Hey there, parents! Do you have little ones between the ages of 0 and 5? If you're looking for a fun and engaging playgroup, we’d be thrilled to have you join us in the Kindy room at Malibu School! We meet every Wednesday during the school term from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. It’s a wonderful way to help your child build social skills while connecting with other families in the community. Check out the fun we had this week to see if our playgroup feels like the right fit for you and your little one!
This week was absolutely packed with fun, creativity, and lots of laughter! We kicked things off with a truly quacking good time in our craft corner. The kids had a blast getting messy while making their very own Handprint Duck! We traced around their hands and glued on paper to create the cutest little ducks. Then, we splashed into crafting a Duck in a Pond, using paper, chalk, and glue to bring a beautiful pond scene to life.
The sensory play zone was a huge hit! The kids had a fantastic time playing with shredded paper, discovering plastic farm animals hidden inside. They also enjoyed squishing, rolling, and shaping playdough with farm animal cutters, rolling pins, and even playdough hammers. The giggles just kept coming as they created their own little farmyard masterpieces!
For some energetic fun, our little ones bounced to their heart's content on the mini trampoline, hopped around with adorable farm animal toys, and explored the kitchen toys, pretending to be chefs and bakers. It was a whirlwind of excitement and imagination!
And of course, no playgroup would be complete without dancing! Everyone joined in for a lively dance party, with bubbles floating all around. The kids twirled and spun with colourful pom poms, filling the room with joy and laughter. What a fantastic morning full of fun, learning, and unforgettable memories!

Junior 4
As Term 2 got underway, our Junior 4 students quickly settled back into the rhythm of school life. We’ve been focusing on building independence by following our classroom schedule and establishing our familiar routines. Each morning begins with a morning circle and a daily emotions check-in, where students are supported in recognising and naming their emotions using our helpful classroom visuals.
We had a very special time celebrating Mother’s Day with a lovely afternoon event and thoughtful, handmade gifts. It was a wonderful opportunity to show appreciation for all the love and care our mums and mother figures give every day.
A standout moment this term was our classroom assembly performance! We read the engaging book The Day the Crayons Quit and explored the story’s colourful characters through a variety of sensory, hands-on, oral and written activities. The performance was a joyful celebration of colour and creativity, with students proudly dancing in costume and sharing their colourful posters with the school community.
Music has also played a big part in our term. We were lucky to attend two exciting performances by Taiko On and Kaboom, and we cheered loudly for two of our very own J4 classmates during their own Bucket Drumming performance, what a fantastic effort by all!
Junior 4 has been making great progress on their Enterprise Project for 2025. So far, students have voted on a Market Day product, chosen a stall name, designed a class logo, and started practising their production skills. Next term, we’ll begin weekly excursions to IGA to continue learning about the roles of customers and sellers as part of our research.
It’s been a fun, active, and engaging term for Junior 4, and we’re all looking forward to the adventures that Term 3 will bring!

Middle 3
As we come to the end of another exciting term, it’s wonderful to see how our students have embraced both their learning and the many fun activities that have filled the past few months! We are enjoying our weekly library visits and this term one of our favourite stories was Commotion in the Ocean. Back in class students had a great time creating their own ocean creatures.
We have introduced Malibu Clubs back into Middle Block and students are all enjoying the different activities on offer, based on their individual interests. Seeing our students’ happy faces as they come back from clubs is a highlight of our week. We have also enjoyed our new cluster PE programme this term where students have been able to access a range of different activities each week.
In HASS, we have been looking at our families and changes over time. Students had fun seeing images of members of their family on our Interactive board and incorporating these into their learning. We also looked at how things have changed over time and students seemed surprised when shown images of old pocket watches and phones, making us realise how old we are!
We are happy to have Paige back with us in the classroom. She is especially enjoying the parachute and balloons.
We are excited to see what term 3 brings.
Lisa, Raji, Ash and Tara.

Art
This Semester, in Art, we began by exploring the colour wheel and actively creating secondary colours by blending and mixing primary colours together using toy cars to run over the paint. We then began an exploration into stamping with different items and used a variety of food as stamps including onions, apples and celery. Students familiarised themselves with stamps and the stamping process and created a piece of art from a selection of stamps and then made our own individualised stamp using cardboard and a choice of different textures. Students then used this stamp to print onto paper.
Next, we focused on a multimedia A3 creation using paint, oil pastels, paint pens, and our own hand-made stamp, the stamps from our peers, and a collection of rubber stamps. Students have explored using a Gelli plate to replicate prints from magazines, different textures and native flora (plants and weeds) to create up to three layers of different textures, plant prints and colours to make unique botanical and multi-layered designs.
