Principal's Pen
Dear families
We hope the start of the term has been a positive time for you and your child. We have very much enjoyed this last busy three weeks!
Thank you to those families who were able to make it to an IEP meeting with your child's teacher. We had a brilliant turn our on Wednesday evening with 54 separate meetings across our 16 classes. Please do make contact with your child's teacher if you are yet to meet. The information discussed helps our teachers to plan for your child's goals for this semester.
We are very keen to work with your child's therapists and ask that you get them to complete the Request for Therapy forms, found on our website.

Meet the team!
Sandi Anderson - School Officer
Sandi is often one of the first people you’ll meet when coming to Malibu School. Found in the front office, she commenced Malibu in 2015 as an EA before moving to the role of School Officer. As an EA, Sandi became a great source of knowledge and support for staff, sharing her knowledge of Boardmaker with colleagues.
Her customer service skills developed over 19 years in the banking industry has allowed her to be of great help to parents, staff and the leadership team in the role of School Officer. One of Sandi's regualar roles is to prepare our community Newletters.
She loves reading and camping and is a pretty good cook and is looking forward to travelling!
One of her favourite things about Malibu School is watching students achieve things they have never done before and has fond memories of the students’ having new experiences and successes during school camps.
Make sure to say 'hi' to Sandi next time you're in!
P&C News
Welcome back everyone. Hope you all had a good holiday break.
Thankyou to all that took time out last year to support the P&C no mater how small it was, as it all helps. We couldn’t do what we do without your support. I’m looking forward to continuing working with you all this year. It was a real honour to be able to work with all our volunteers to get things up and happening last year for our P&C. I know by the end of the year we were all quite tired and ready for a break. However we accomplished so much for our first year and all our P&C members need to be so proud of your efforts. For a small team of people, you guys are amazing to work with. Whilst we still need to go slow and steady, I feel we have a much better idea and understanding of things this year. My hope is we can tweak things for a smoother run this year. As the saying goes “many hands make light work “. With this I would love to encourage other parents/carers to come get involved. Weather it’s to help with one sausage sizzle for the year or maybe one a term. We would love for you to join our team to help grow a better school for our kiddos. Last year we paid for all the school leavers tops and have committed to keeping this going each year. Easter is just around the corner and we are doing a Easter raffle. Please can we ask for donations of eggs to help support our fundraiser? Tickets will go home later in the term. :)
Please come join us for our next P&C meeting on the 1/3/24 straight after assembly and 28/3/24 10am for our AGM. All positions are open and available. So if you feel you would like to step into one of the executive roles you will need to be at the AGM. Remember to bring $1 to become a member for the year, Even if you just want to be a casual member. :) Please register your attendance to the AGM here.
The Uniform shop has received donations. Please head down on a Tuesday or Thursday morning 8.45 - 9.45am if you are looking for some extra uniforms. I’m told they have:
Sizes from 4 - 3xl in school logo shirts and non logo. Mostly size 13&14. They also have some Jumpers and Buckets hats. Lots of non logo items for $1 and all logo items are $3. Please bring down any uniforms that you no longer needed to help other families in the school. Also we are looking for volunteers to help in the uniform shop to take the load off Kelly.
The month of March is Malibu’s turn to participate in the Grill'd Rockingham fundraising. So please spread the word and support Malibu on your family night out by going into Grill'd next month so that we can get some more funding in.
Thankyou Malibu family for all your support in whatever way that looks.
“Together we can do more.”Sarah Phillips
P&C President

Middle 3
We have had a fantastic start to year 8 in middle 3. Our learners have blown me away with how well they have settled into new routines and learning expectations. Being in year 8, our students have made the leap into a more mature learning environment this year and I am so proud of how well each student has embraced the change in their own way, being ‘big kids’ is proving to be very popular.
In Literacy, we have made the switch over to ‘big kid’ books and have been thoroughly enjoying our daily instalments of The Kaboom Kid by David Warner and J.S Black. We have been making predictions about what will happen in the text, shared our favourite parts, and answered a range of comprehension questions.
In math we have explored skip counting by 2s, 5s and 10s. In addition to this we have been learning about strategies for addition and subtraction within 20 using concrete manipulatives, rainbow friends to 10, and number lines.
We have been exploring the importance of eating a healthy, balanced diet in health. Landmarks of Australia in HASS and engaging in a range of spectacular activities in our specialist classes.
It has been a fabulous start to 2024 and I cannot wait to learn and grow with this incredible bunch of students.
I would also like to thank the fabulous team of Education Assistant that work in M3, they have worked tirelessly to ensure that our students have had a smooth, enjoyable and productive start to 2024. Thank you, Monica, Kylie, Fluer, Audrey, Mel, Karen and Daniella, the students and I appreciate everything you have done.

Senior 1
Our Senior 1 class have enjoyed our first few weeks back at school. It’s been fun catching up with our friends, after our large summer break. At the end of last year, Karli from Bunnings Rockingham visited our class, and we planted rockmelon, watermelon, strawberries, cucumbers, and mandarin trees. It was exciting to go for our morning walk and spot all the fruit we grew over the holidays, and we have been enjoying eating some during the day.
We have had some very hot days and our students have enjoyed drinking nice cold lemon water and having icy poles and watching movies in the airconditioned classroom on days to hot to go out and play during recess and lunch play times.
We been busy planning where we would like to go on Fridays, and today we are excited to go on our first excursion for the year, we are off to Zone Bowling.
On Wednesdays, our Workplace Learning students have had a successful two weeks of work experience, while the remaining students are enjoying a Independent Living Course. Thursday has five different courses running, In S1 we are completing a VET Workplace Skills Course and enjoy completing various tasks through the day.
I enjoyed meeting all my student’s parents on Wednesday 8th of February, thank you for all coming to the IEP meetings, it certainly helps me plan my year suited to your child’s needs.
Finally, from all of us in S1, we are looking forward to another amazing year, full of adventures.

This year, Variety’s Creative Car Cruise will be kicking off at Malibu School in Safety Bay, a Kindergarten to year 12 school for students with disability.

This boutique cruise for a cause invites like-minded enthusiasts to show off their prized possessions, while raising funds to help give a fair go. Malibu is just one school that has benefited from the wonderful work of the Variety volunteers and donors, with the charity allowing children to gain mobility and freedom, to get out and about in the community, with increased self-esteem and independence.
