Principal's Pen
Dear families
One week into the holidays already and I hope you and your families are well and enjoying quality time together.
This has been a wonderful year of achievement, thanks to the dedication of our staff and the strong partnerships with families and community. I congratulate and thank the Malibu P&C for their very first (and successful) year with great admiration for how they have established themselves to have an even greater second year, while focusing on the positive connections made between family members. My appreciation extends also to our School Board. Every member gives their time generously to share their insights and discuss directions for the school, always focused on student outcomes.
Term 4 is always a full one, with a host of whole-school events like Market Day and Navy Day, as well as numerous interschool carnivals and excursions.
Most importantly, term 4 is time to celebrate our graduating year 6 students and farewell our Senior graduates and leavers, many of whom have shared their entire learning journey at Malibu.
To our graduating and leaving students - we thank you for your tme with us and wish you every success, hoping that your adventures ahead are full of joy and reward - reflecting a Future Without Limits.
The most significant feature of this last school year has been the ongoing complexity of staffing, and the impact felt from rolling absences and a national teacher shortage. I would like to thank our incredible staff for their committment to the continuity of quality programs and student wellbeing, regardless of any staffing impacts. I would also like to thank our families for supporting our class teams during times of uncertainty.
As the year ends, I express my greatest respect and appreciation on their retirement to;
- PE teacher Debbie Flynn who has been at Malibu for an incredible 30 of a 40 year teaching career,
- EA Tarryn Fortini who has worked with joy and dedication at Malibu for 23 years, and
- EA Sandy Hudson, serving 19 dearly valued years at Malibu.
Each of these ladies have made a significant impact and contribution to the lives of many students at Malibu School and to education standards in general.
We wish our permanent teaching staff Sofie Williams, Nicky Dux, Thi Bao Tran Nguyen and EAs Stacey Lee, Claire Hannemann, the very best in their adventures ahead as they move to new schools and thank Jarrad MCaskie, Aubrey Dancer, Natalie Boyd, Carissa Apps, Chris Glasgow, Peter Greenhough, Robin-Drake Brockman, nurses Gemma, Renee and Helene for their time at Malibu School.
We end the year with every position filled except for a teacher for M1 and will advise families as soon as this position is filled. We will be welcoming 11 new teachers and I look forward to introducing our new staff, including EAs, to our families next year.
I am so proud to be part of a school where staff continuously put the needs of others first, in circumstances that are changing, challenging and tiring. Thank you to our families who let the team know they are appreciated, acknowledged, brilliant and valued. I know they find great joy in what they do, in contributing to the lives of your children, and in the positive partnerships formed with families. Our new staff look forward to developing these relationships with you.
As the New Year approaches, our team will be enjoying a well-deserved break, though taking time to plan in January, to make sure 2024 starts off well.
With only a few days left to go before the 25th, I wish everyone a very Merry Christmas and enjoyable holiday season, safe travels to those heading away and a brilliant start to the New Year. I look forward to welcoming our new and returning families soon.
Kind regards
Merrilee Wright
News from the Board
Hi families
Hello Everyone
Can’t believe it the end of the school year for all our students and staff, this year has gone quick.
Congratulations to Malibu School for being a finalist in the WA Education School Awards. Unfortunately we didn’t win this year so we like to Congratulate Joondalup ESC for taking out this year's win.
I like to take this opportunity to say a Big Thank you to all our past and present members on our School Board. Everyone has done a great job to help and support our staff and school issues that have arisen and also seeing the fantastic work the staff and students have done through this year. Thank you Jason for stepping in as a Chair Person when I’m not there or running late for the meetings.
Merrilee, I take my hat off to you as a Principal. You have done, and still doing, a marvellous job through this year to get teachers and teacher aides when positions need to be fill so our students can continue a normal day. I know you work day and night to make sure our School doesn’t miss out on anything. You fight tooth and bone to make sure everything runs smoothly. Thank you!
P&C thank you! You all have done a fantastic job on your first year and you should be proud of yourself.
Last thing to mention is we should have some building work to be done and completed before school commence next year and it will be a fantastic surprise for everyone.
Take care, stay safe and enjoy your holidays! Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
Kind Regards
Malibu School Board Chair

P&C Report
Hello Malibu Family
We have reached our end of school year and what a year it was. We are all another year older and hopefully another year wiser?! 😃
But I’m sure us Malibu parents are super proud of how much our kiddies have grown this year.
Thank you to the parents that have already donated their kids out grown school uniforms. This will be of much benefit for some of our Malibu families.
I’m very excited to announced that the P&C raised over $2000 between our massive Christmas raffle and our colour fun run. Which is a massive achievement for all involved. Congratulations to the lucky Winners of all the fantastic prizes. I’m sure you will all enjoy them.
Looking forward to a much needed rest and some special time with family over Christmas.
Praying you all have a great summer holiday and Christmas with your families.
See you all in 2024

What a wonderful semester we have experienced in M3! Students manage to inspire us on a daily basis with their determination and resilience. As a teacher, I feel very honoured to have had the opportunity to teach this group of young adults.
This semester, in M3, we have focussed on refining our effective communication, using several strategies, including AUSLAN signs and our voices. We participated in an explicit whole school literacy program which included many books, music and engaging activities. It was A LOT of fun!
Learning about local Noongar customs and culture has been another highlight. We have combined the ‘word of the week’ with our lessons, focussing on the natural environment and appreciating differences between people from all backgrounds.
Every fortnight we participate in class cooking, which is so much fun, we create healthy snacks as part of the Stephanie Alexander program.
Thank you to each and every student for making our school a better place to be. On behalf of the whole M3 team, I would like to say a big THANK YOU and wishing you all a safe and happy holiday.
Chris , Monica, Kylie, Audrey, Fluer Kylie Gi and Sally
Middle 5
Term 4 has been a big one for M5! We started off with Market Day where we successfully sold out of all the products that the students worked so hard to make. Next up was a couple of weeks of working hard at our remaining IEP goals while starting some fun Christmas crafts. The last 2 weeks have been all about graduation and Christmas. We’ve decorated the classroom and windows for the competition for the best decorations. Then we started graduation and end of year celebrations with a variety of fun incursions and excursions. Following graduation, the students have earned themselves a well deserved break!

What a fantastic semester we have had. As a class we have experienced and enjoyed many community outings such as Amaze, Kwinana adventure park, Reds zoo, Barbeques at the foreshore and even Dome for lunch.
Seniors camp at Ern Halliday Recreation Camp in Hillary’s was another great success and awesome to see our students connecting and participating in team building Activities outside of school.
Thursday night our students have graduation and finish the year off with Navy Day!!
Enjoy the holidays!

Senior 3
As the academic year draws to a close, we bid farewell to our year 13 graduates, who are now ready to embark on the next chapter of their lives. It has been an absolute pleasure to have been a part of their journey in 2023, and we are proud of their accomplishments.
We have had an eventful semester filled with exciting activities, including workplace learning, permaculture, and transitioning programs. The school carnival was a thrilling experience for everyone, with a wide range of activities like running races, ball skills, hurdles, egg and spoon races, and relay races. The Navy Day was also a huge success, with an array of games and delicious food. Our Market Day was a big hit, where we sold our lanyards and keyrings, making a substantial profit and showcasing the excellent teamwork of our students. It was also a great opportunity to socialize with other classes and explore their creations.
As we say goodbye to our graduates - Aiyana, Billy, Zac, Riley, Amelia, Joachim, and Harry - we wish them all the best in their future pursuits. We will miss them dearly and hope they cherish the memories they've made with us.
With warm wishes from Robyn, Karen, Marc, and Nikayla.
Art
In art this Term, the students have been able to explore the world of Dance, Drama and Traditional and Digital Art.
Art class has allowed students to examine famous artists of the past such as Henri Matisse and Jackson Pollack and create unique artwork themed around these famous artists. Digital Media class has looked to invoking the use of iPads and other digital technology to create unique art that challenges their creative minds.
In Dance, the students have explored the different methods of interpretive dance to practice their rhythm, gestural movement and even exploring concepts like dancing like undersea creatures or turning shapes and colours into dance routines.
Drama class introduced students to the many different forms of the theatre, from practicing being magicians in a stage show to learning the act of miming. Students were able to dive into their creative imaginations and learn how to practice interpretation and expression.
Through the course of the Term, the students have shown themselves to be true artistic wonders. They are so talented and capable of creative imaginations. As art is the language of the soul, these young students can learn to speak their inner voices through the beauty of the Arts.
