Dear families
Thank you to those able to attend our end of term assembly today. We had a record amount of certificates presented, for demonstration of our three Positive Behaviour Expectations and a selection of great items presented. A wonderful way to end the term.
This term we have celebrated Book Week, three students completing the Kwinana Industries Council iDiversity project, the PESA Cricket Carnival, the largest number of students attending Workplace Learning, highest numbers of community access / excursion attendance and an increase in enrolments. The success of these achievements is a great reflection of our progressive programs and innovative staff, each making a significant and positive difference for our students.
From Kindergarten, our staff are focused on the achievement of students at the time they will leave Malibu School. Every year group builds on the learning and achievements made the year before. I am particularly proud of the recent recognition from the latest Senior ASDAN certification Moderation involving schools across the state. Our year 13 student leavers and staff were applauded for their skills and efforts in ensuring each student's Learning Journey was comprehensive and meaningful, with many of the portfolios noted as the 'best of the day' in their respective categories. This achievement means that our students will receive a formal certifcate and recognition for their hard work, at school and during our community and workplace learning programs, to be presented at their end of year graduation and farewell event. Well done to all!
This term we've had greater consistency with reduced student and staff illness. I'm sure you share my relief! I would like to thank and acknowledge teacher Lisa Thomas (J3) who will be completing her final practicum in term 4 and welcome back Tylah Adams to J3, having just completed her teacher training. We farewell Thi for a while as she grows her family and welcome Elizabeth Melville to S2 from next term.
With the weather warming, I'm looking forward to a glorious last term with a range of opportunities for our families to share and connect. In the meantime, I wish you and your family well for the holidays and hope the sun shines throughout.
Kind regards
Merrilee Wright
Malibu Staff Stars Shine!
Recently we had the opportunity to celebrate some of our fabulous staff at the annual WAESPAA Recognition Awards. 27 of us attended the wonderful evening, featuring a key note speaker and acknowledgement of our Education Support sector from across the state. We are so proud of our staff and very pleased to have the opportunity to cheer on our team below.
Malibu Administration Team
During a challenging year, our Malibu Administration Team demonstrated incredible professionalism and commitment to the continuous provision of exemplary service for all stakeholders. Lisa, Nola, Sue and Dee readily adapted to new roles and responsibilities to prioritise student and staff support and the core business of teaching and learning.
Cluster EA leaders
We celebrate Desiree Rule, Di Moir and Jo Abel for their leadership, efficiency and support for their colleagues. They coordinate seamless school events, facilitate the collation and distribution of data, mentor staff new to the school, participate in planning and lead whole-school initiatives, making a significant impact across our school.
Robin Roberts
Malibu’s Technical Officer, Robin ensures that our students can always access learning by ensuring our equipment and resources are ready. His care for the students and school community is evidenced by his willingness and availability to collaborate with staff in the planning of whole-school events or small group learning activities.
Teresa Caruthers
Malibu School is proud of the visible and remarkable difference Teresa has made across our school. The impact she has made to our outdoor learning environment is noticed and well-enjoyed by the students, staff and families of our school community. Teresa’s knowledge, skills and expertise benefits us all each day.
Celebrations ahead!
Congratulations to Thi and her family for the times of joy ahead! Thi is heading off to grow her family with the coming addition of a little boy, and we are all very excited!
Thi started at the school in 2015 as a relief teacher, noting that the school always made her feel welcome and part of the school community.
Prior to joining us at Malibu, Thi worked as a gymnastic coach, in retail and hospitality, as a nail technician and lab technician doing hair transplant (with a famous client), tourism and travel until she spontaneously quit her job to study at TAFE as an Education Assistant completing her CERT III & IV. She had such great experiences at my prac schools, especially at Malibu.
Wanting to do more, she enrolled at Notre Dame University and during her 5 yrs of studying and 2 pracs at Malibu School, was always drawn to go back there again. During University she worked at an early learning centre, and after graduating worked as Extend-Ed leader which was a before and after school care at St Hildas Anglican School for Girls.
As a graduate Teacher, she enjoys learning everyday from her students, team and other teachers and EA's. Her hopes for her future is to continue to grow and learn from amazing teachers and EA's who have helped shape her, the teacher she is today.
With a school full of mums and dads, we're looking forward to a visit soon and know we'll see her back, leading teaching and learning at Malibu again.
From our Malibu family - we wish you and your family all the best and thank you for another wonderful year!

The students of M3 have successfully mastered many homemade and commercially sourced magic tricks from the magical tube to the disappearing coin.
Much like dance routines, each magic trick is taught in sequences involving certain actions and a script. It is truly exciting to see the students so engaged and eager, practing so that they can master each magic trick.

Media Arts has the capacity to engage, inspire and enrich the lives of students. It encourages students to develop creative and intellectual potentials.
In class, students make and respond using Media Arts knowledge, helping them to understand skills that represent meanings associated with personal and global views.
With a focus on a future without limits and greater independence, all aspects of our students lives in M1 and M5, have been working collaboratively to create a series of simple recipe videos, using the Stop Motion Application. So far, the students have created videos for simple snacks and beverages. Next term, will move forward onto more complex recipes that require using fry pans and a microwave. Each week, the students skills have been improving with set management, production and editing.
Junior Dapper Dancers

During class, students are encouraged to be independent. This helps to boost confidence and self-esteem, whilst learning to coordinate and control their bodies, further developing spatial awareness.
From a seated waltz, the cha-cha or creating their own hip hop routine, there is no doubt that all our Junior students this term have thoroughly enjoyed our Dance and Movement class. It has been wonderful observing the improves made by each student’s independence skills as each week passes. Whether it is a single directional movement or performing full routines from start to finish.

Lucretia Ramsay
Fabulous First Aiders with S1 and Senior girls
First aid lessons equip students with a better vocabulary for complex situations. This helps students practice communicating clearly to each other, other adults, how to tolerate confronting situations centred around personal space and the various forms of consent, assume roles of responsibility and how to use their initiative to aid in an emergency situation.
Our Senior students have blown us away with their fantastic efforts in health class, learning how to administer first aid during our mock scenario's by putting someone in the Recovery Position. Each student has surpassed our expectations this term in First Aid.

Physical Education
Physical Education lessons at Malibu School is fun time, where everyone actively engages in a variety of games, dances and movement challenges. The enjoyment had is evident from all the smiling faces, laughter and activity levels.
Thank you to all our wonderful classroom EA's, who enthusiastically participate in all physically active lessons, to support our students in many different ways. Such as following simple rules, understanding game concepts, how to use all equipment safely and appropriately as well as encouraging students by cheering them on. We wouldnt be able to run P.E. lessons without your willingness and enthusiastic participation.
In our older senior classes, we have been continuing to apply the skills we have learnt when using sports equipment during games that are modified to all needs.
A new game, that has been thoroughly enjoyed is Frisbee Golf, as well as the more traditional games such as Basketball, Cricket and Soccer have also been well received. It has been great to see students using these game skills with their peers and staff during their free time play at recess and lunch.
Middle students have enjoyed practicing how to control a ball, by rolling, throwing and controlling a bounce with skills in different games and activities played in a group or with a friend. Middle students have also continued with many of their favourite games to play, as well staff immensley enjoying them too, like square tennis (using a beach ball) which focuses on batting skills.
Junior students have been learning and participating a variety of relay games, in preparation for our term 4 Athletics Carnival. The focus has been how to use equipment appropriately, waiting for your turn, indicating time for someone else’s turn and most importantly, have lots of fun in everything we do!!
Some of our classes have also been learning skills in Soccer and demonstrate how amazing they are at passing, kicking and dribbling the ball as well as acting as a goalie by stopping the ball from going into the opposition's goal!!

Junior 4
J4 Students have been busy this term planning and creating our Enterprise products, in preparation for the Malibu Markets in term 4. Students have so far, created paper mache bowls for their Rocky Road Chocolates and decorated plant pots and sensory bags, all of which will be available to purchase on Market day.
We collaboratively voted to decide on prices for our products, explored money, made creative plans and designs which are leading up to our final products.
Fridays in J4 intensively focus on HASS. We have been studying Penguins by looking at their sustainability of the population and how humans have changed what they are doing, to ensure support for penguins in the future.
We have had some great sensory activities- exploring the ice that is found in Antarctica as well as the natural aquatic environment for Penguins.
Zoe, Linda, Denise and Jacqui
Junior 5
This term has been so wonderful for everyone in our classroom, with lots of exciting things going on, that our students got to participate in such as Pyjama Day. Even though we had lots of rain on the day, we were thankful to have our slippers, dressing gowns and Oodie’s keeping us warm and dry!
J5 students to enjoyed dressing up as their favourite book character for the last week of Book Week as well as having a boogie at the School Disco.
During term 3, Junior 5 students have been enjoying bopoks by Julia Donaldson. We have listening to The Gruffalo, The Gruffalo’s Child and A Squash and a Squeeze. Students used their knowledge of these stories to create a fun and colourful Gruffalo wall display, containing all of our amazing pieces of art and all the new words and phrases we have been learning.
We have also been concentrating on developing our social skills and making positive choices within the classroom.
Junior 5 students are looking forward to some well-deserved rest in the school holidays so that we can have a fantastic final term of 2022.

Middle 2
Term 3 has been very busy as well as exciting for all our students in Middle 2. We began term3 with Pyjama Day where we all enjoyed wearing our favourite pyjamas to school for the day. This made waking up and coming to school, a little more exciting for us all! We also our weekly community access outings to Rockingham City, which quickly became the most anticipated and exciting day of the week. Middle 2 students, have already acheived their goal for independently tagging on and off the bus as well as choosing an item to purchase which is usually purchased from Kmart or Red Rooster.
Towards the end of the term, we have been having a week-long celebration to show our appreciation to all the amazing Education Assistants who support our students and staff in Middle 2 . The students and I would, once again, like to thank all the hard work our Education Assistants do every single day. Our classroom, would not have the great success it has without them....thank you!!
We end this term, with us all, participating in the PESA cricket carnival at Lark Hill. It was so much fun, playing all the different games and activities with students from all the local schools within the area.
M2 have enjoyed every moment of this very busy term and have now begun the count down to our well-deserved school holidays!

The Amazing M6!
During term 3, M6 were very busy creating Father’s Day gifts, partaking in the PESA cricket carnival as well as learning all about historical diseases.
We have had alot of fun learning all about the Black Death Plague and comparing it to the Covid-19 Virus. We have compared both the illness and their similarities within each pandemic and the differences in treatments as well as how society has reacted.
We have thoroughly enjoyed painting the Gnomes we made for all the Father figures in our lives. We all had a go at painting our Gnomes, making them all completely different to each other.
Middle 6 students all had big smiles on their faces while 'having a go' at all the various activities during the amazing day at PESA Cricket Carnival. We were lucky to have some great weather on the day weather while we met with some old friends and made some new ones too.
Everyone throughly loved the day. It was fantastic!
